here’s what you gotta do:

  1. pull your jenga blocks out.
  2. write some fun commands on each block. (see examples below)
  3. invite some friends over and set up the newly vamped jenga to play.
  4. during each person’s turn, pull a block from the tower.
  5. obey the command that’s on your jenga block.
  6. if it’s blank, write a new fun command.
  7. if there are commands on both sides, choose which one you’d rather carry out.
  8. repeat numbers 5-8 until the tower falls.
  9. have fun!

here are some super fun and funny things to write on the jenga blocks:

  • say the alphabet backwards.
  • sing the alphabet to a different tune…like “mary had a little lamb.”
  • play a lightning round of “i spy.”
  • tell your competitors something they don’t know about you.
  • sing “twinkle twinkle little star” with your tongue out.
  • tell the person to your left something you like about them.
  • tell the person to your right what your first impression of them was.
  • take a camera phone photo of the game + competitors right now.
  • wear your shirt backwards for the rest of the game.
  • make up a song about your day to the tune of “i want it that way.”
  • play a quick round of truth or dare – everyone gets a turn.
  • random scavenger hunt! everyone has to find: a bobby pin, a piece of paper, something with the letter “M” on it.
  • during this round, everyone must pull out the blocks with their non-dominant hand.
  • do your best impression of someone you are playing with.
  • take an extra turn.
  • you must refer to yourself in third person for the rest of the game.
  • play “thumb war” with the person to your left.
  • dance your best jig.
  • random duck duck goose!!
  • no matter what the person to your right says or does, you must actively disagree.
  • vogue…strike a pose!
  • make the loudest fart noise possible.
  • balance the jenga box on your head for as long as you can.
  • throw this tile across the room.
  • “boop” someone on the nose.
  • say “i love you” in three different languages.
  • give the tower a name, and only talk to it for the rest of the game.
  • make the first animal sound that comes to your head.
  • for the rest of the game, you must overly motivate everyone as they pull out their pieces.
  • make up and recite a poem on the spot.
  • do your best ballet move.
  • do your best beat box for 10 seconds.
  • call your mom and tell her that you love her. right now.
  • play two truths and a lie.
  • interpret the artistic meaning behind the outfit worn by the person to your right.
  • etc.

there are many routes you can go with this idea, of course.

the jenga workout:

  1. pull your jenga blocks out.
  2. write some work out commands on each block. (see examples below)
  3. invite a girlfriend over and set up jenga for a good (and fun) workout.
  4. during each person’s turn, pull a block from the tower.
  5. everyone that is participating should obey the command that’s on your jenga block.
  6. if it’s blank, write a new command.
  7. if there are commands on both sides, choose which one you’d rather carry out.
  8. repeat numbers 5-8 until the tower falls.
  9. take a 5 minute break, stretch, and play another round.

here are some workout ideas for the jenga blocks:

  • do 20 jumping jacks.
  • downward dog for 20 seconds.
  • do a headstand.
  • high-knees for 30 seconds.
  • 20 push ups.
  • 30 crunches.
  • etc.

and there you have a workout that takes you by surprise the whole time! also, if you’re a mom, you could also use jenga to make your kids do some chores.

use jenga for chores:

  1. write “small chores” on the jenga blocks. (see examples below)
  2. have your kids play jenga (letting them know they have to clean, though. don’t wanna be too sneaky). also, you can play along with them.
  3. during each person’s turn, pull a block from the tower.
  4. obey the command that’s on your jenga block.
  5. if there are commands on both sides, choose which chore you’d rather carry out.
  6. repeat numbers 3-5 until the tower falls.
  7. when the tower falls, each person must complete a “big chore” (see examples below). that way, everyone will work super hard to make sure the tower doesn’t fall for as long as possible.

small chore examples:

  • dust one piece of furniture.
  • clean one dish.
  • pick up 3 things off your floor and put them in their rightful place.
  • recycle 3 items.
  • empty the bathroom trashcan.
  • get the mail.
  • pull weeds in the garden for 5 minutes.
  • etc.

big chore examples:

  • clean your room for 15 minutes straight.
  • sweep the entire kitchen.
  • vacuum the entire living room.
  • fold clothes for 15 minutes straight.
  • mow the front yard for 15 minutes straight.
  • pick up all the dog poop in the backyard. (teehee…)
  • etc.

and pretty soon your house will either be clean, or your kids will be hiding in the attic with their iphones.

so now you know how you can make jenga more fun! or less fun, if you’re going the chore route. jk!
